The Smiths' 'Panic' is about Jimmy Savile. I don't know if it's true but it's what I heard.

The original title of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” was actually “While My Potato Gently Weeps”, and was inspired by an incident during one of George’s acid trips where he thought a potato was shedding tears from its eyes while he was peeling it to make colcannon.

The original title of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” was actually “While My Potato Gently Weeps”, and was inspired by an incident during one of George’s acid trips where he thought a potato was shedding tears from its eyes while he was peeling it to make colcannon. That was quite a strong theme for George in this period. 'Savoy Truffle' was originally about a box of potatoes. He was persuaded to change it in case the potato farmer sued.

Not forgetting the ballad of sir Frankie chip ( in a roll) . The record company had to intervene over his potato heavy themed debut. On Isn't a pity the line, isn't it a pity that people turn it into mash ,was obviously left on the cutting room floor.
Lennon had a similar obsession with peas.

The original title of Abbey Road was Absolute Clown before George Martin called the boys into his office and told them it was 'unacceptable'

That is true. He also had to intervene over the original comma on the early pressings of please please me as it was too 'suggestive'
