Two very raw tracks that carry with them the authenticity of being at the beginning of something.
I liked the stripped down electro feel of A and Run DMC's rapping style always had a lot of personality. They weren't about flow so much as sheer forcefulness. This is in the wheelbarrow (copyright 2019) of what you expect from them, but I enjoyed its sheer blast.
B was interesting. It sounded like blues rock from 69/70 so I was surprised to see it was from 67. Generally I prefer my post Hendrix blues rock wig outs to come attached with more of a tune or groove. I liked its ferocity though.
Close but I'm going A but apologies to B.

B is proto stooges, very heavy. iggy doing freakbeat.
what the hell is A thinking about?

Very stilted and dry that Run DMC sound, isn't it? Austere as Theresa May's face on a factory visit to Altrincham in February freezing rain. There's something to be said for the sparseness of sound though, and that breathing loop becomes quite hypnotic. Reminds me a bit of Nitzer Ebb circa Belief, which I guess is what everyone was thinking.
B is like a very fuzzy blues Stooges. Blooges. A hint of Hendrixy squall about the guitar, too, I can't help feeling that if it'd run with the feedback more, and left the bluesy riff behind it could've gone somewhere. As it is, it kinda peters out without fulfilling any promise. All louche and no trousers.

I like B a lot, but this is one of the definitive songs from Run DMC's first album. I also like the electro beat feel to it that a lot of those early hip-hop groups incorporated like the Zulu Nation and Egyptian Lover.
I recently heard an interview with Ice Cube and he went as far to say there would be no hip-hop without Run DMC.

I notice on the record label that B was written by that Graham Bond Organisation lot. You might expect something a little better. There's really nothing much there at all. It's too slow, the riff is terribly dull, the singer has no obvious talent.
A is marginally better - I expect it sounded great in 1984 or whenever it came out. I wouldn't turn it off.

I like this match. I like the attitude of B, and it's got a thick and greasy blues rock sound that I enjoy, but A is peak-era Run DMC and a really good pick. It does kinda remind me a bit of Belief-era Nitzer Ebb, but that's probably just me. Anyway, A for that '80s goodness.

A is "historically important," of course, but I mainly hear its influence on what was to come, which would get so much better.
B is slight, I suppose, but I'm starting to prefer Freakbeat by seasoned veterans to US teens in Midwestern garages.
Boy, all the hatz cliches are coming out this round, eh?

A. with a firm nod of the head.i think the music aspect of it dated almost instantly but the vocals are where it’s at. I think Ice Cube is right. These guys were game changers.something about how strong the voices are and how well they go together. B. Might have aced this handily if I liked the vocal better.

Not looking forward to this tie at all a - I found this dull, with a clattering beat and some random weirdness. No idea what this is about 'like the crop of the cream'? wtf? Just some random thumping and shouting. I just don't get this sort of hip-hop. I'm too old. 3 / 10 b - fucking hell, this is no better. Horrible cliché blues guitar, funereal pace, dreadful anaemic vocal that mistakes straining for passion. 2.5 / 10
A I suppose, but fucking hell

B is lumpy as all hell.
I prefer other Run-DMC but it still wins here.
