I don't find either choice terribly interesting, but A's got a grittiness to it that I find more appealing.

A is a nice enough bit of crate-digging, with a dusty and creaky groove that suggests it may well still be at the bottom of a crate, but doesn't have an awful lot to make it stand out from the herd. I'm not a big fan of doo-wop but B is pretty and sweet enough to make an impression. There's something faintly sterile about it that stops me loving it as much as others, but its pure melodicism wins me over.

A does indeed sound ace but I agree - yet again, in this round - that its more the sound than the song itself that gets you going. Really good pick. B sounds deeply weird in 2019, alien - but its sweetness is undeniable.

A is a raw yet delicately-nuanced gospel thumper and it’s a crying shame it’s getting dumped in the river by the kittenfest that is B. For fucking fuck’s sake it’s

a - well, the title suggest gospel, but that's not what I'm hearing until they start singing one minute in. And no mistake the vocals are full on and authentic and indeed rather lovely. I think they should have been further forward in the mix - in fact, I'd have preferred it a capella – but that's a fine bit of gospel vocalizing 6.5 / 10 b - well of course I've owned this for more than half a century, it's a lovely track (although at times I think I prefer Mr Blue), and also the only US number one to feature 'percussion' of the lead singer shaking his car keys. 7/10 However, seeing as A is one of the finest tracks in the round so far, and is getting an undeserved whupping, I'm rather perversely voting
