Aw, man. R.I.P.
A huge AEC box set just came out a month and a half ago...

Damn. I had an AEC track lined up in the 70's Cup if I had gotten through.
RIP

Oh, damn. 😢
AEoC were visionaries. Their records just had so much space and atmosphere; they were some of the first on the outside end of the Jazz spectrum to leave so much breathing room in their music. I loved their willingness to try bringing in other musicians (and musical styles) to what they were doing (e.g., Freda Payne’s tenure with them, and their Art Ensemble of Soweto stuff).
He did a lot of stuff outside of AEoC as well; I actually just stumbled across a skronky, funky gem this weekend featuring Jarman (I’ll share when I’m not on a phone, though... the mobile version of this site sux).

I saw AEoC twice, both times at Sweet Basil on 7th Avenue in NYC. They were phenomenal shows. I just ordered the ECM box set, but won't get it for a couple of months... my wife will bring it back from the USA in March.
