I'm not an especial fan, I don't really know much of his work, but he gives great interview/speech

what a character! like most people my age I got to feel like I know him from his appearances on David Letterman. I saw a couple of his "midnight movies" but, despite the humor, the energy & Divine's obvious star quality they could really put a lot of demands on my squeamish nature.
starting with "Polyester" I think his movies are a lot of fun and don't really require keeping a puke bucket handy. I think he remakes the types of movies he loves in his own image and he's a pretty funny guy so sometimes they are a lot of fun.
his book "shock value" was LOTS of fun. he talked of working with Prisoners and really seemed to think that everybody can get value out of creativity even under the most extreme circumstances. he's one of a kind. he can be catty but he's so damned good natured that it's hard to bust him when he's mean. it's all in good fun. I love him. He should be on TV every day.
Landmark theatres used to show this "no smoking" trailer briefly in the 80's :

Yeah, see, I don't like that. Nothing funny or alternative about that cancer-causing shit. I suppose it wasn't as recognised then.
The book sounds like a good read though.

This video with Werner Herzog first realising that he's gay makes me laugh every time.
'Female Trouble' is my favourite of his films. It's amazing how shocking a lot of his 70s stuff still seems, there's a transgressive quality which is unmatched.

I love him, whether it's his films, books or interviews. He's a hero of mine. I also had the pleasure of meeting him and he's a very kind man in real life.

I met him and he signed something. I don't normally go for that kind of thing. But it was John Waters. He's interesting, has a broad taste and interesting takes on things, he's a mensch.
