My hero.
I'll say more later, maybe.

Youg gotta switch that L and I in the title. This one pops in my head at random times throughout my day.

The first record and Clear Spot for me.
TMR is a record I liked a lot when I first heard it (Peel went through a phase of playing a track a night) but, once I started listening to ‘real’ free jazz and contemporary Classical (ooh!) I never went back much. Ella Guru is killer though.

My preference is still Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller).

And just five years later... Happy Birthday, Donnie! "Why do you think your band is becoming so popular?"

I never went back much. Ella Guru is killer though. Clear Spot has too many weedy commercial tracks for me to really dig it as a whole ('Her Eyes...', 'My Head Is My Only House'), but the best stuff is stellar. TMR will always be my favourite album, partly because of when I first heard it and the impact it had then. About a quarter of it is Zappaesque tomfoolery, but the rest still kills me. The guitar tone on something like 'Veteran's Day Poppy' isn't quite like anything else I've heard. It's like razor blades on ice. Is that good enough? I always like to end with a pretentious simile (that's SIMILE, Matt)

I only know a couple of his albums pretty well and wish I knew more. I admire his musical path, greatly.
His interviews are pretty funny. You'd think he was a truck driver by how they read. Even when he's talking about his art or music.

One of those unique brains. If he were around these days he wouldn't bother with music at all I suspect and would probably have gone straight into painting.
A reminder of an era when giants walked the earth.

Oh, what the hell -
Drumbo's entrance here (0:17) always thrills me, and he's so much fun to watch...
