I don't think he's been a great owner btw, more that he's been candid enough to admit that he has made a number of mistakes.

He's been linked with a few clubs. I'm not sure he's worth £72 million, plus you really need some defenders.

you really need some defenders. yes, this really is the area they need to be strengthening in. klopp finally addressed the goalkeeper and central defence at liverpool and it reaped success. emery strikes me as a bit of an idiot. long may he reign.

Interesting you mention Klopp. In the 17/18 season he decided the best form of defence for Liverpool was attack. That may well be the best answer for Arsenal in the short term, given the defence needs quite a lot of work. We'll win games through having the superior attack. Can you challenge for the title with that approach? No Could it be enough to break back into the top four this season? I think it can. And if we get back into the top four we can start the rebuild in earnest for the 20/21 season, when we'll also have the very promising central defender Sabila to come in. So far from being an idiot, the approach they're taking makes a lot of sense for this season, but sure it's a risk.

In fairness Arsenal did play very well at times last season, but now that Koscielny has gone, there is no one of real outstanding quality. Holding is never going to make the England team and Sokratis just doesn’t strike me as being good enough for a Top 6 side.
Sure, you’ll win through superior firepower some of the time, but whether it’s good enough for you to make the top 4 is in doubt. I guess if Chelsea crash and burn under Lampard and United continue to stumble under Solskjaer..
With Diop, Balbuena, Rice and maybe Reid back to his best, I’d say West Ham have better defensive options at least in the middle over Arsenal right now. And I can’t remember that ever being the case.

That's harsh on Holding. I think he's much better than you suggest -he reads the game very well and is composed, he just needs to add a bit more physicality to his game. He's still young though and can go up a couple of levels. I definitely think he's got the potential to be a regular England international. The main worry about Holding though isn't about his quality, but that he's had a serious injury and it will take him a while to get back to his best.
Sure there's a risk here, but I'd say our chances of getting back in the top four look a lot better now than they did a few weeks ago.

80 million for Maguire. One wonders what a Franco Baresi would cost these days.

At 59, I reckon you could get him for a bit less than Slabhead

i note that G is too busy licking DD's ball bag to comment upon arsenal's latest waste of money.
