I miss her. The Slits were great fun their music holds up better than most of their male counterparts of the day.

I loved the Slits too. Cut is a great album. Of course, they had guys like Dennis Bovell helping them out, but they captured the spirit of reggae better than lots of other bands who seemed to try too hard.
I was just listening to New Town the other day on a self-made comp and it's as great a comment on modern or suburban culture as anything.
She was a friggin' genius. Crazy, but a genius.

Return of the Giant Slits is also terrific despite the awful album cover.

Never saw this before:
Cut is SO amazing - I think it has yet to be given its proper due. Offhand I can't think of another British post-punk LP that delights me as much. Bovell and Budgie made wonderful contributions, but some people are inclined to give them TOO much credit (I don't mean you, sloop!) - as if these GIRLS couldn't have come up with such a thrilling batch of songs on their own. But just listen to the Peel sessions - things were solidly in place before Palmolive left.
I enjoy Return whenever I hear it, but that isn't often... it just never quite grabbed a'hold of my heart to the degree that its predecessor did. Still, good for them for stretching out a bit - it's certainly no disgrace, as follow-ups to masterpieces go.
Happy Birthday, Ari.
