Having a little disagreement with Rayge (what's new ) on T Rex so I thought I'd broaden it out and see what the board thinks. I'm confining this to the big hits from their classic major run ( my own favourite T Rex single was the non-hit "By the Light of the Magical Moon".). Order from best to worst and comment if you wish: "Ride a White Swan" "Hot Love" "Get It On" "Jeepster" "Telegram Sam" "Metal Guru" "Children of the Revolution" "Solid Gold Easy Action" "20th Century Boy" "The Groover"

Bolan really was unintentionally hilarious at times with his bare faced cheek and ego. There are lots of funny stories in Visconti's autobiography of this. But I was reminded of this just now when looking at the wiki entries for the singles. Bolan actually claimed that his flop (compared to the ones that preceded it)single "Truck On Tyke" was deliberately not as good as the others.. " "was a planned thing. I wanted something not so good to happen to compare it (future material) against." Yes we believe you Marc..

Well, first of all, the classic run began in Tyrannosaurus Rex with Debora, then One Inch Rock/Salamanda Palaganda, Pewter Suitor/Warlord of the Royal Crocodiles, King of the Rumbling Spires and By the Light of the Magical Moon and culminated with Jeepster. I can't be bothered much with anything after that, because the essence of the band THAT I KNEW was lost, and they were making music for pre-pubescent audience and I was in my early twenties. I mean, it was always fun to see them on TOTP, and I remember them all (except The Groover), just didn't feel the need to buy them any more.
So, in order, Jeepster One Inch Rock/Salamanda Palaganda (b-side bongo mania) Hot Love Debora Get It On Warlord of the Royal Crocodiles King of the Rumbling Spires Children of the Revolution 20th Century Boy Ride a White Swan Metal Guru By the Light...

REALLY enjoying The Slider now. It just beats Electric Warrior to my ears - a little more varied, a little more playful.
I think maybe I should do a bit more digging.

Part of my Daily Nutritional requirements from Day One:"Jeepster" "Get It On" "Ride a White Swan" "Telegram Sam" "Metal Guru" "Children of the Revolution" Didn't really enter my world until I sought them out:"20th Century Boy" "Hot Love" The penny never dropped."Solid Gold Easy Action" "The Groover"
I baby sat for a lady that had that sideways T.REX album and I loved that damned thing. vertical bands of light in Rayge's general direction for mentioning "One Inch" - I think I'll listen to it 5 times in a row. haven't heard it in years.

on reflection I feel the need to point something out. even though "children.." is the last in that first group I absolutely fucking LOVE it.
it should probably go before "metal guru" but that just ain't gonna happen.

He is already TRAGICALLY high on his own fumes by then (you can just kind of TELL), but the hubris is still pretty compelling (that last "YEAH!" in COTR is so satisfying, even if it is a bit "Better. Better get me a bucket."). The Rolls Royce line is a glorious moment of the guy catching his own reflection in the mirror.

I'm pretty sure I knew some people who knew they were gay the minute they looked at the cover of "The Slider"
