Maybe comedy dates more than most forms of art. I certainly felt that when watching the Keaton clip. I know he was prodigiously talented, but I found this clip tested my patience a little. I actually feel bad saying that - I wanted to enjoy it more.
That Lebowski thing....I was never a huge fan, but this clip was fine. Goodman, Bridges, Buscemi and Turturro - there's a fuckload of talent there!

Neither really do it for me..by rights I should probably abstain. John T does have fun with the flamboyance of the character, but overall it's more quirky than funny. I completely agree with JCs comments on B. To be honest I struggled to identify what was even meant to be funny in the clip. I think if the picker wanted to represent silent comedy they'd have been better picking something with a stronger, more obviously slapstick content.

It's unfortunate that silents don't break down so easily into digestible bits, but as both of these are based at least somewhat on character development, I'll take Buster's Bovine-loving goofball over any of those clowns. (I actually like Lebowski a lot but there are far funnier scenes.)

The Big Lebowski is a fine movie, but Turturro's character is the weakest thing in it. I never saw Go West, and never rated Keaton as highly as most do, but the five minute clip here had four or five good gags it, from slapstick to the surreal.
B all the way

A is a damned fine film, with an extraordinary cast. Isn't really full of belly laughs, but it's a witty and silly film, and hard to represent from a short clip.
B seems a random 5 minutes. I like some silent comedy, I like Buster Keaton. But this is a real struggle to see any kind of point.

Both good in their way, but A just speaks to me more.
