Then there are these. I have the first one. What made me think of these were some old Jan and Dean albums, which led me to the Beach Boys, which reminded me of this.

After seeing the Searchers get two huge hits in the UK and USA by covering (in the original sense of the word) two of her singles, Needles and Pins and When You Walk in the Room (the one between was not released over here), copping the vocal and instrumental arrangements as well as the song, she came up with this one, and the Liverpudlian bar band slunk off with their tails between their legs and looked for something simpler to rip off (they never wrote their own material, certainly not on A-sdes in their imperial phase anyway). At least, that's my version of events: others may differ. But I can't think of a UK producer, certainly not on Pye's roster, who could have had a more than risible shot at this:

A personal favourite and produced by Spector protege Jerry Riopelle apparently That's a surprise - always thought that was one of Phil's, but it wouldn't be the first time he claimed credit when it wasn't due. Bill Medley was the producer on Unchained Melody and the other Bobby Hatfield solos put out under the RB name on Philles, too. You could not see the join.
