No, really - it's quality.
I didn't watch the original series - not because I was too old for it (which technically I was but good quality children's programming is ageless) but it just didn't really appeal, though I saw some of it. And I didn't have any expectations for this as I don't watch a lot of TV - but for some reason I was looking at the BBC site over Christmas and ... Well, there's a League of Gentleman bloke in it and I don't like any of them - and the opening credits had sentimental fiddle music (the update of Poldark is full of the stuff and is the hugest pile of gurning sentimental bollocks) ... so all in all I thought I wouldn't last watching it and that it would be crap. Not a bit of it.
It's a total delight. Mackenzie Crook *is* Worzel, it absolutely drips 'Summertime in England' bucolic charm - without being saccharine - the music by The Unthanks is fresh neo-Georgian folk classic, and the characters and storylines are good enough to be modern day folk tales with environmental, country-loving themes. I've seen both programmes now and I'm sold on it.
Don't know if any Preludiners have kids the right age but it's very good stuff.

It was pretty good. I liked the folkloric/mystical twist Crook put on it.
