OK - let's get a couple of (possibly) obvious choices out of the way first. I first heard this one on a Talking Heads' bootleg, funnily enough - recorded at an early gig. It was horrible, but it pointed me in the right direction at least... I love it to bits. Yeah, maybe its lyrical content isn't entirely appropriate for these times, but now that I've mentioned it maybe no-one else will... It's loaded with that lovely late-sixties pop stuff. Sweet/silly backing vocals, wheezing cheapo organ, utterly simple chords with an irresistible gear change less than a minute in. Its lack of musical ambition is a virtue. And this one I love even more, although I reckon it might be less popular because it's so unashamedly childish and dopey. I'm pretty sure I first heard it on the Monty Python sketch that ends with some packing crates 'posing' as a band, with all the accompanying camera zooms and cliched shots. Typically preposterous and loads of fun. One thing I really like about it is that almost buried little guitar lick that pops up at the end of most lines, like a silly little wave. It's a particular crunchy sort of guitar sound you hear a lot in records from that time (some Velvets, that Wilson Pickett soul shouter whose name escapes me right now). And those almost falsetto howls ('oh love I love it soooooooo') are a joy. What you got?

Oh, I love this shit so much!
This was the first one to pop into my mind when I opened the thread:
I'll undoubtedly have it bouncing around in my head for days, now...

"Yummy x 3" is the first one I thought of when I saw the thread title. A perfect record. It's WAY better in mono, John! As is this:

Tommy Roe is the king of this stuff:
(That's a helluva breakbeat to kick it off!)
This is in the running with Yummy to be THE definitive bubblegum song, if you ask me.

Yeah, "Dizzy" is a favorite, too. I was three years old when it came out and, being unfamiliar with the word "dizzy," I thought they were singing about Disney. Stop me if you've heard this one before. Whoops! - too late.
How about this, then:
Inspirational verse: Sunday after Mass / Picnic in the grass / Diggin' Mama Cass with Skooby Doo.
And I love that they use the word "daft" in another verse.

Tommy Roe is the king of this stuff: Actually, I think you'll find Tommy James is. That entire album is the blueprint for Kasenetz/Katz, imnpho.

Oh, he definitely transcended it. That album is just such a clear signpost to me in the development of it.
Big assist to Ritchie Cordell, no doubt (who went on to work with Kasenetz/Katz, which I somehow didn't know till I looked him up just now) but Tommy was definitely taking notes...

Of course, the Archie's is still one of the best.
Ron Dante, the lead singer was involved in lots of great bubble gum, including this one by the Cuff Links.

Of course, the Archie's is still one of the best. If you haven't yet, do not let another second go by without experiencing this fantastic (and contemporaneous!) cover by Alex Chilton!

This Alex Chilton fan isn't that impressed by his "Sugar Sugar".
Wilson Pickett's, on the other hand...

This Alex Chilton fan isn't that impressed by his "Sugar Sugar". Then perhaps I can interest you in a Box Tops version of "You Keep Me Hanging On" done in the style of Vanilla Fudge's version? Chilton even put in a lyrical easter egg for the Doors "The End". It's heavy maaaaan
