Always heard Gaucho and Aja as more dentist office/fern bar music. Otherwise, lots to love on the first 5.

it's like Sinatra. when you reach a certain age you start drinking Johhny Walker and digging on "Babylon Sisters" mark my words - it'll happen to you.

I used to cite Countdown as my favorite too, for that same reason of it being musicians who seemed invested in it, as well as being a little more rock-tune-ful (less jazzy/easy listening)... I don't know, man, CTE seems very jazzy to me; i seem to hear latin, bop, soul jazz, post-bop and fusion elements all over this record, with of course the rock elements intertwined through it all too, pure SD. But i don't know; trying to figure out which of those SD albums is more or less jazzy than the others is like asking which classic-era Pentangle album is the most or least folky. Certainly true. The jazz is always there. It's just that CTE seems to have almost Beatles influence on "Boston Rag" and "Pearl of the Quarter", which is unusual for them, so I guess it feels more rock in that way to me.

I just want to say that I believe CTE is pretty much a perfect album; 5-star tunes all the way through and i wouldn't change a thing.

I've always considered it one of their peaks and it was the first Dan album I owned so it's always been special for me. It seems that these days people tend to focus more on Aja or maybe the Royal Scam and overlook CTE but CTE is solid gold from beginning to end. Just incredible song writing and performance with a band that is really cooking. Plus it has Showbiz Kids and My Old School, two of their greatest songs. I even like the sleeve.

A very predictable "punk" take that will convince nobody that doesn't believe that kind of stuff already. Yeah, thanks for your work on Surfer Rosa, Steve, but your feelings on the Dan mean diddly squat.

I don't know, it read a bit too barbed to be tongue-in-cheek funny, though i don't doubt he was saying it at least a bit in that spirit. He should stick to his lane.

I feel that way about at least half the musical opinions expressed on here!
