I have 4 of those and should probably have them all. A great comp. label. But i digress - here's some smokin old school soul jazz courtesy of horn man Willis Jackson and co.

I can't believe it's come to this, an unholy alliance with Dougie against the insidious encroaching malevolence of fange and his tasteful soul stylings. Still, sometimes it's better to swallow your pride, principles, general distaste, grudging disapproval, outright dislike, contempt, repulsion, scorn, disdain, repugnance, derision, and general utter revulsion, for the greater good. Any other cunt standing with me? My Greek cousin Thesaurus obviously is. Oooh, you bitch. It's not like I'm Rayge, y'know, I was never edjurcated.

We're talking about this Soul Jazz, right? The genre, not the label, but I do love both. It's *probably* my favorite niche label at the moment, right up there with Dust to Digital. I was just joking.

Lou Donaldson, Blue Mitchell, Lonnie Smith, George Benson and Idris Muhammad - there's some fucking quality.

It's just a period of music when soul met jazz and jazz got funky. It's not hard to get into and I'm struggling to understand the objections above for example. I got into into it through going to clubs back in the day, it wasn't inaccessible.

Lots of nice stuff, i just have never gotten the allure. Usually nicely done, but overpriced here in the US and probably elsewhere, and really not anything one could not educate themselves on easily through reading and talking to others. Not looking to thread crap, but more so educate me on the allure. There are some Londoners here I am sure, I wonder if any of them shop at their store, Sounds of the Universe. I have had much better luck selection, shipping and price wise with Honest Jons (even on Soul Jazz releases!) I think you're talking specifically about the record label here, rather than the genre. I've been in Sounds of the Universe a few times, but it largely isn't my scene. They do a good job of curating the obscure or forgotten from around the world, but, yeah, I'm not sure what their target audience is.
