What a load of old pointless bollocks. I just can't stand actors anymore, particularly when they start hectoring about politics. Just FUCK OFF back to making movies, flying around the world doing fucking interviews about your latest crap film and pocketing millions. Stop lecturing us.
1. Win award 2. Mention the following: Trump...climate change/environment....racism...lack of diversity 3. Soak in applause 4. Exit
I mean, it makes sense when you have these people who are hugely successful and privileged that they feel the need to use this "power", probably as a means of mitigating some kind of guilt or uncomfortableness at their rarefied position in society. The whole social justice thing sees pretty much everything as being "political" too so it's incumbent on them to say summat because if they don't they'll get criticism from within their chosen peer group for not using that platform for "good". That's how it works.
Meanwhile, the rest of the world carries on outside their bubble.
Brando sending the Native American was pretty funny though.

I'm torn between agreeing with you, and thinking that because they're in a position of influence, it's good they use this platform to promote these sorts of values when people are listening. I mean, who listens to politicians any more? And you'd have to agree that it's rare that they start shouting about anything dodgy, right? But it does make for tedious moments during a ceremony that - in my opinion - should be entertaining and glamorous. Times are changing, THO How would you feel if it was a football player? How would that happen? and where? I don't think I'd care much. But it's not about me, it's about young people getting the message.

You'd say "fuck off you thick cunt". Or "You're a footballer ffs". I think a lot of people do something similar with actors these days regardless of what their message is because they are so bored of this kinda thing. It does come across as lectury, as sanctimonious. Oh look another actor talking about inequality at a ceremony where free goody bags worth 100 grand are handed out to nominees....etc. Like the relative at a party who drones on about the same subject again and again, eventually it all just becomes white noise and people switch off.
What message though? Respect the environment? Trump is a cunt? Something about cows? I don't think the message gets through to anybody who isn't a believer of the message already. You think some young Trump fan is gonna think, "hang on a minute" cos Brad Pitt criticises the president?
C'mon man. It's just another echo chamber.

Anyway, Parasite won which is good.
The director staring at his award with a "wf" grin on his face was wonderful. I've seen people talking about how this might open up the best film award to more foreign films which is a good thing, if it transpires.

I've not seen Parasite, but in a world of generally shit films at mainstream cinema, I'm glad something leftfield won.
I just hope it wasn't down to some notion of imposed diversity though.

Who knows these days?
But, yeah, all these people droning on about lack of diversity (hello Janelle Monae) were hopefully overjoyed by a South Korean film winning the best picture award. But then again…no non-Koreans…no gays…no non-binary characters.
After Moonlights victory two deserving films have taken the crown in recent years which is nice to see.
Great to see Laura Dern win. She’s great. I love her.
