I'd love to see either Pacino or Pesci get the supporting actor award - altho' I just found out Pesci already got one for Goodfellas.
And Saoirse Ronan for Little Women 'cos I love her.
Not sure if I care much about the rest. But I enjoy all the bullshit.

Ach, fair enough. Brad's a good sort. And a gracious little speech, too.

Was I the only person who had no idea the Oscars were on last night? I up to Twitter exploding in a frenzy of excitement at a forrin film winning.

Glad Parasite won.
I really rate Joaquin Phoenix as an actor but man he is a fucking Hollywood drip.

The broadcast was kind of a disaster..WTH was Eminem doing there and why oh why was there a Mid show "Recap Rap" by Utkarsh Ambudkar ? These seemed like odd, desperate attempts to be "Relevant" and "Fresh"... And could some reps have given Zellweger and Phoenix the correct meds to make them more concise ? Renee did a slightly better job at the Spirit Awards..Phoenix should have simply quoted his brother and said thank you..
As far as the winners are concerned..Some good..Some not so good..Typical Oscars..

The pained sincerity. The earnest swallowing. The nail biting. Is he high? It's all a bit Stipe...that kind of faux shy celebrity thing. The cunt is a fucking actor. He stars in movies. Don;t pretend you're this shy, retiring student delivering a speech in high school about SAVING THE EARTH.

I just thought it seemed quite thoughtful.
I tend to find him a very mannered actor anyway, in 'The Master' he was mannered to the point where it was off-putting and distracting.

Watch it. It's odd. He's odd.
Can't someone just go on stage these days, a bit pissed like, and be like "fuck yeah! Made it ma!" and then do a Ric Flair style WOOOOOO!

What a load of old pointless bollocks.
I just can't stand actors anymore, particularly when they start hectoring about politics.
Just FUCK OFF back to making movies, flying around the world doing fucking interviews about your latest crap film and pocketing millions.
Stop lecturing us.

I'm torn between agreeing with you, and thinking that because they're in a position of influence, it's good they use this platform to promote these sorts of values when people are listening. I mean, who listens to politicians any more? And you'd have to agree that it's rare that they start shouting about anything dodgy, right?
But it does make for tedious moments during a ceremony that - in my opinion - should be entertaining and glamorous.
Times are changing, THO

Phoenix would have been fine if he stuck to these two instances, said thank you and walked off, saving the other matters mentioned for the post interviews:
"I'm filled with so much gratitude right now...I do not feel elevated above any of my fellow nominees or anyone in this room, because we share the same love, the love of film... I don't know where I would be without it."
"When he was 17, my brother wrote this lyric...Run to the rescue with love and peace will follow."
The first part expresses the love of film and the second, a short but poignant clip of his worldview..Would have made it a sincere three minutes and had less cow rape..
