Elvis, Jackson, Prince, even EVH ( someone was telling a story of meeting EVH at his agents and Eddie had a mini guitar strapped to him and would play requests, kinda like a ventriloquist's dummy as his conduit to interacting with people, sad.), tons of isolation, I think that is what has helped Springsteen, during the 70s and 80s whilst touring he would go the the movies, hang out, talk to people, eat with them, go to their homes, he didn't want to become like Elvis. He has sought to be approachable even now, at his kids' stuff, and riding his cars and motorcycles around.

It'll be interesting to see if anyone picks him in the cup, he's very rarely been picked over the years. My theory on this is that his best stuff, with perhaps a couple of exceptions, are also his best known songs. Given how much he released over his lifetime there should be lots of opportunities for 'deep cuts', but there isn't somehow, it's hard to find those nuggets in his catalogue.

I kind of agree, at least about the his best songs also being amongst his biggest hits; but i think his catalogue has nuggets galore. I guess it all comes down to how much you enjoy his particular style(s).

I'd agree, but there's a shitload of unreleased (at the time) stuff that fans claim to be as good as the hits. I'm not convinced. I do like some of his originals that went on to be big hits for other artists - 'Manic Monday', 'Nothing Compares...', 'I Feel For You'. Tom Jones' version of 'Kiss' is categorically one of the worst things ever to exist, however.

I thought he was a sensation when I bought Controversy. After that it's been hit and (mostly) miss as far as I am concerned.
Overall it wouldn't kill me if I don't ever see or hear him again.

Who knows G, someone on Preludin might pick a Prince song for the letter P. I can see it happening.

At the record company meeting On their hands - a dead star And ooh, the plans they weave And ooh, the sickening greed At the record company party On their hands - a dead star The sycophantic slags all say: "I knew him first, and I knew him well" Re-issue! Re-package! Re-package!
