Bugger, this isn't even the Stax round is it? I've got to listen to two more tracks like this? Pfffft.
I'm finding it difficult to say anything about A. Nice crisp drumming. But it just exists, and doesn't do anything for me, it's two minutes of my life wasted. Which isn't a big deal, it's not like I don't waste more time than that quite frequently. It's just that this finished, and there was nothing comment-worthy.
Crap, I was hoping this was going to be a rare acoustic singer-songwriting effort. He's the worst mimer in the word, and that voice just doesn't sound like it belongs to him, it looks like they've cocked up and picked a random Merseybeat clip for the song. Again, nice crisp drumming. Another unremarkable song, but slightly less unremarkable than A.
B

I love Tony Joe - he's a pretty major artist in my world. Shame he's picked with his best-known song, though as it's the only food one I can think of, I'll take it. B.
I like A too, but its connection to the theme is tenuous at best.

Tenuous? It's got food in the title! Anyway looking forward to Hatz' review of The Velvets "Heroin" when it gets picked for drugs "Great song, but what does it have to do with the theme?"

Yes, and if it was called "Walking Through the Park with My Love" it would be the exact same song.
A title does not make a "theme." Nor does a band name.
Perhaps I'm being too picky, but my pick, my rules.

So the music has to sound like food?

If you're picking an instrumental, yes, it should.

So the music has to sound like food? Dunno what we'd pick...there was The Beatles track where Lennon instructed George Martin to make it "sound like an orange"!

There's an old story about Beefheart asking his drummer to 'make it sound like a strawberry'...

Not only is the Beach Boys' "Vegetables" about food, it also sounds like food!
Double vote!

I was going to give my vote to A anyway, 'cos Hatz is talking out of his arse, but - like nearly all MGs tunes - it turns out I prefer it anyway (altho' B IS pretty good)

A has tight playing and all, but it just seems sort of pithy..Not a huge fan of B, but at least I was surprised it was a white guy singing this song all this time..Remember hearing this song as a kid and thinking it was an old blues guy like John Lee Hooker or something..Never investigated it further...Vote B

Yeah, I don't know what's so tenuous about A. Both good songs, but

Jesus H., folks, forgive me for my obviously mistaken understanding that a food theme translates to songs that refer to food thematically! My bad! Hey, if a title is good enough for you, more power to you. But then why are we bothering with a theme if it's just gonna break down to which song you like more anyway? Isn't how well you meet the theme supposed to be part of a thematic cup?
