Synthpop isn't my thing. I'd usually abstain if I didn't find something to like in one of them. All I'll say though is that I could at least sit through

That's (I think) the first Legendary Pink Dots track I've heard, and it's OK. A bit like TVPs with toy synths. Not great, but not bad.
B was a huge hit however many years ago. I didn't like it then and it actually sounds more stupid now.

OK, I know my rules about synths strike some here as silly, but they're my rules and I'm sticking to them. A is more playful.
B doesn't offend me, but it is a bit dull.

I guess we all have our genre definition of this, certainly mine is narrower than 'any record which uses an electronic instrument'. Neither of these fit the bill in my eyes, though I'm sure others will disagree.
A has the kind of resolute amateurism that reminds me a little of The TVPs ( certainly in the vocal). Musically it's as plainly functional as they come, there's little going on so it's left to the vocal to carry things. Unfortunately the chirpy vocal got quite annoying. Not terrible, but not very good either.
B is smoothly processed lounge house, a Euro hit that seems designed as an all encompassing background track for 21st century living. Is it just superior wallpaper music? Maybe.. but there's a nous in the construction of the melody which means it works.

Having just commented that I wouldn't pick something like Coil's Ostia in a cup, I realise that I've made that very mistake here. I can't tell you how much I love this song, it's not even a minor thing, it's a full on obsession. It's a tape only demo from the very early days of LPD, only released on archival albums for completists. Yet I have this theory that it's the greatest song ever created, just not properly captured and fleshed out. Or even in this form, y'know, I wouldn't want to ever have to make the choice between wiping out the whole of humanity or never hearing this song again. Something about those lyrics, too, the cadence, everything, Ka-Spel was a genius back then.
I don't mind B. Wouldn't seek it out, generally don't have to. Wouldn't call it synthpop myself, but it's electronic at least. Not a disgrace like that Lothar pick for which I will bear an deep-seated grudge for the rest of my life.

Well, I have to admit that I was a little scared about A after reading DF's praise, but it turned out that it's a lovely little tune, and definitely more pleasing than B.

Yeah, not sure i'd call B synthpop, more techno for me, but no matter. It's just that the tune doesn't really do a lot for me. A is a little less slick and a little more likeable.

B conjures up so much nostalgia. The structure isn't much at all, but this kind of thing at the time was such an entry point for my childhood head into the enjoyment of sounds that it's impossible not to vote for it. It would be like hating on your favourite kids' TV program, or your first pet. Nah, it's not synthpop but at least it's actually electronic.
Sorry Fish, I know you love A like a son, but

Oh thank dog that after several tracks in a row that made me feel dead, the Dots have turned up to remind me that I'm alive. This isn't a life-changer, but it's loaded with charm and pure pop nous. Proper vocals, too.
Don't know this. I was prepared to like this until the farting goose-step kicked in. Flicked forward in case there were vocals. No.
