A is a thing I think on with affection, like Twinkle cartoon magazines, knee-high white plastic boots and daisy-chains. That's all.
*Edit. I can't vote for it. It isn't a flute. I don't even think it's a piccolo. I think it's tin whistle. And it's barely in it.
B is dreadful.
There is decent flute music out there, people!

Once again, thang says it better than I can. A isn't flute - I believe it's Terry Kirkman on recorder, though I couldn't swear to it - and B is awful.
I'm going to vote for A because at least it's a good performance otherwise, and you can make a case that a recorder (or whatever it is) is at least a kind of flute. Plus I know Ruthann Friedman, who wrote it, and she's a dear.
Wow, this has really been the name-dropping cup for me!

Jeez, B has some Balls that's for sure. I don't think it's that bad, actually; a couple of the comments above made me think it would be akin to some shambolic Spanish synthpop or something. But A is just a much nicer tune for me. I'll take people at their word that it's not exactly a flute in there, but if people are willing to vote for records not released on BN in the Blue Note round, then i'm more than fucking happy to vote for something i like more if it has some kinda flute-like instrument in it. Do you not know Gary McFarland Fange? He's a really important figure and should be as well known as Axelrod, particularly for his masterpiece America The Beautiful. The comments so far are what they are, but some people don't get it. I'm surprised you expected it to be bad.

Whatever A is a lovely song. I love The Association but I've never liked Windy ( just about every other Association record is better) because its melody sounds like a nursery rhyme or kids TV theme, I mean it sounds like the theme song to Rainbow for fuck's sake. I can't believe the easy ride it's getting here and it doesn't even have a fuckin' FLUTE in it. I'll be back to talk about B later.

That's why i tried to suggest, in a roundabout sorta way sure, that it wasn't that bad at all; just not enough to get the win. The name GM does ring a bell but i can't recall it right now, i'll look into it later for sure.

The name GM does ring a bell but i can't recall it right now, i'll look into it later for sure. I would start with his 1968 masterpiece America The Beautiful. A state of the nation concept album that effortlessly blends orchestral arrangements, classical, jazz, Brazilian styles, blues and rock. It's a real tour de force and I'd be surprised if you weren't impressed ( in particular you'll love Bernard Purdie's drumming). The whole thing is on YouTube! I'm having difficulty pasting a link but you can find it easily enough on YouTube. I might start a thread on it even though you, me and Oleander are probably the only ones would be interested.

A very much sounds like a nusery rhyme or TV commercial or something. Isn't that a Vanuatan throstle-pipe rather than a flute, too? This is very much offensive to my ears. Makes me want to buy a sugary drink.
I really don't care for The Beatles' Get Back, I think its a lumbering clumsy thing, so obviously I don't have any emotional attachment to it. So I don't get the hate for this either, it's got a certain roll to it. Might just be the double-bass flourishes at just the right time, but the flute work also actually does go places, too. I think this one is pretty good, full of charm, dusty and warm.

I grew up HATING The Association. it was the sort of music that grown ups played in the sixties to show you how hip and with-it they were.
I have seen the error of my ways. I pick A now that I am so hip & with-it myself.
