A's singer sounds a bit whiny. Can't say it's grabbing me at all, though I can see the appeal of a sweet little ditty.
B's an interesting choice. It's light, almost inconsequential. There are better known and more accessible Saint-Saens pieces out there - and ones featuring the violin which works it a little more - and combines with piano better, I'd say. But pleasant (and short) enough.
I don't like either of these enough to vote for the just now. Will revisit.

I like these both, and like that they're two different not-obvious interpretations of the theme.
I was hoping there'd be more stuff like B on the theme, so I guess my desire to reward it is the tie-breaker.

A is utterly charming and moving, one of my favourite BS tunes. It's a difficult thing to get that sort of shambolic feel without testing the listener's patience - this not only manages it, but it's triumphant. And Chilton is in fine voice - sort of broken, but emotional.
B I have no interest in, sorry.

Both a bit forgettable for me. B for going outside of the box.

It's Faure, not Saint-Saens. Although there are also more well known Faure pieces for the violin out there, however this is probably more cup friendly. It's literally "cradle song", a lullaby, gently rocking and somnambulant. I'll give it a vote if only to try to push back against the anti-classical prejudice here.
I've never taken to Big Star anyway, other than that song This Mortal Coil covered.
B.

Hmmm, I have no problem with classical music, other than I never find the time to play it, but B seems a little piece of not much to stand out. And A is a tiny sample of that special touch that makes me love Big Star.

Devil's Trill Sonata by Tartini was my choice for this, btw, but it wasn't my group.

oh, A I suppose. I don't know the track well but it's got what I like about Big Star going on.

I love A deeply. It has great drums, too.

Something Waterboys-y about this one for me, albeit without the celticisms. The violin is actually quite nice, it just doesn't feel like it belongs to the pub sounding setting of the song.
I'm happy to have an anti-classical prejudice, but also an anti-cult band that never did much for me prejudice, too. So I'll just vote for these on their own terms. Yeah, it feels quite slight. But it feels more like something I could imagine choosing to listen too.

This is an A for a couple of reasons; i'm still struggling with classical music, and it is against a song i really like.
