JC Supervova wrüt:
I'd be disappointed if he didn't. it was his bread & butter, you know? Sonny for Life. I really liked him.

Wolfgang Petersen dead at 81. I'd seen several submarine movies before I saw "Das Boot" but what a heart wrenching and nail biting thing that was. www.imdb.com/name/nm0000583/He sure did make some "American Style" movies! of those I love "In the Line of Fire"- one of my favorite Clint Eastwood vehicles.
Tonight I'll watch either that or "Shattered" - a decent Hitchcock type thing he did featuring Bob Hoskins.
EDIT: I never saw "the perfect storm" so I watched that instead since it was on services I already pay for. I guess it was well done and all but maybe I should have sported for "Air Force One". I never really gave that one a fair shake. I like Gary Oldman as bad guys but I was working in a video store when it was new and our 10 or 20 copies were like feeding time at the zoo. I couldn't stand the sight of the damned thing for years. I guess I'm over that now. next time somebody involved with it dies - I'll make a point of watching it.

In the line of duty, I just looked up a CD of the original cast recording of The Fantasticks on Discogs.com. Out of curiosity, I clicked on the link for Rita Gardner, the actress in that cast, to see what else she'd done - and learned that she died today. (And someone updated her Discogs page with impressive promptness.) Freaky.

That cast album was played a fair amount in my household when I was very young. Mom loved that show, and even had the songbook so she could play the tunes on the piano (very) occasionally. ("They Were You" is da bomb.)

Also featuring a young Jerry Orbach of 'Law and Order' fame (Sadly, also gone too soon)..Jerry also has a connection to the latest RIP, Angela Landsbury..He was a regular guest on Murder She Wrote..
