It's his birthday today
Greatest rock n roll performer ever? I mean, he is rock n roll, isn't he?

Great live, undoubtedly. Released a whole heap of shit in the last 40 years though.

Better than Elvis, Little Richard, Tina Turner, Jagger, Jerry Lee? I love Iggy Pop, but he seems to get put on a pedestal more than is warranted, in my opinion. He was lucky punk came along. Just sayin'.

well, he seems to know it & that helps. he's had some lean years. I got no problem if people want to lay it on a little thick.

well, he seems to know it & that helps. he's had some lean years. I got no problem if people want to lay it on a little thick. He's a favorite of mine. I just think people tend to go a little overboard about him. I also think there's a difference between "memorable" and "great." The latest Ugly Things has a good interview with the Raspberries' guitarist and he talks about opening for the Stooges and fans throwing stuff at them. His line was, "I guess they couldn't wait for Iggy." I think we forget how reviled Iggy and the Stooges were in their time, but history has re-written that opinion. Like I wrote, I think punk helped, or I don't know if it would have been the case. My point, other than in the first paragraph of my response, was if he was so "great," wouldn't past audiences have recognized it? Or was he just so far ahead of his time, they didn't see? You can look at it either way, I guess.

I just think "great" is a pretty flexible word. Leonardo Davinci was great. Converse sneakers are great.
I saw Iggy do that whole peanut butter thing on TV in the seventies and people hating him was part of what was great about him.

Compelling performer, but his bands, even (especially?) back in those glorious Lust For Life days, were always a bit shabby. I like the way the more recent concerts aimed to replicate the sounds of those records. I mean, maybe it was slavish - but it's better than THIS tripe
I'd want my money back

The multitracks for LFL are up on youtube. I wonder if they're taken from the new remaster.
This sounds like they've upped the volume of the guitars or something. Jesus fuck it's such an incredible piece of noise!

I feel like he should come out on stage and shake everybody's hand in the front row while that plays.

For the two or three people who haven't seen it... (I promise this is worth twenty minutes of your time, regardless of how you feel about Henry)
