John looks a bit heavy-lidded in some of the first bits you see there. He was 'clean' then - or was he not?

That was one of the problems, he became very non-communicative. I wasn't sure when he was most strung-out. I thought - as John says - he'd mostly got himself sorted by Twickenham

And as they discuss the prospect of The Beatles coming to an end, he is visibly distraught. “Paul was getting very, very upset,” says Jackson. “People have heard bootlegs [of these conversations] for years. But because nobody’s ever seen the pictures, you haven’t seen the tears that well up in Paul’s eyes. He’s desperately trying not to cry,and he’s breathing like a goldfish to sort of try to push the tears away. That’s all in the picture. I mean, there’s such a big difference between the audio that has been out there, and actually putting pictures with it. It transforms it.”

I’ve been streaming the special edition “Let it Be” and really enjoying it. I’m finding the surprise run-throughs and fly on the wall type stuff are especially enjoyable.
I’ve been grazing a little press of it online. I think Giles Martin has become the Steven Wilson of Beatles World. Me, I like Spector’s mix & * always have. I LIKE the harp and the choir. Even if I didn’t, does it make Giles Martin some sort of SUPER-Genius because he turned those things WAY down?
I don’t know. I’m asking.

I only listened once, and while working - but I didn't notice that he (Giles) had particularly changed ANYthing, really.

It's a 'defensive' mix. He thinks he's getting rid of what people dislike.
Thing is if you're going to do that, you need to bring something to it. It's not actively bad like the Abbey Road one, but it doesn't really seem to have any reason to exist.

I just had a quick re-listen to the "new" "Long And Winding Road". The orchestra and choir are as prominent as ever - if anything, they seem to have a little more definition than in the Spector mix. What did Giles get rid of?

Well, I guess I’ve got beans in my ears! all the “sweetening” seems WAY down in the mix to me.

I think Giles Martin is the Christian Nesmith of Beatleworld...
