just seen john's post regarding the passing of new musical ex-prez on bcb. since i can't post on there, i would just like to say how shocked and saddened i am by the news. i met him at a jolly-up and he came across as such a lovely man. we shared a love for the searchers. he even played one of their songs for me when he was DJing on hospital radio. he posted movingly about coming out which i thought was very brave. a bcb great.
RIP Matthew

I find this hard to believe. I hope it's not an Edwin Starr thing.
I haven't seen anything on my timeline. I know he just moved to Liverpool and went into the hospital for pneumonia after fainting at home.
I'm good friends with Kid P and he and Matt have gone out a couple times since he moved. I messaged Kid P/John and asked him what Matt was like. John said he's one of the most positive guys he's ever met.
After he went to the doctor after fainting, they sent him home. Someone's got a malpractice suit coming.
When Matt came out a few years ago, we had some discussions through messaging about it. It seems his daughters didn't take it very well. And we talked about it a bit. As usual, he was positive they'd come around.
If this is truly the case, I'm very sad to hear. He was moving on to another stage of his life with enthusiasm and relish.
He barely got to enjoy his retirement.

It is true, sadly, Jane (Sensi) texted my wife yesterday to let us know.
I didn't know Matthew well, and only met him once, at a London mini-JU last year. But he was one of the stalwarts of BCB, one of the regulars, you know? It's very said that he's gone, 58 is no age at all, and he obviously had so much to live for, even though he'd had some rough luck over the past few years.
RIP Matt.

RIP, Prez. I never met him in person, but he seemed like an incredibly kind and positive man.

I got a note from a ex-BCBer who told me Matt had recently reconciled with his daughters, which makes me feel good.
You take away what you can from these things.
