But you will need to pot on that parlour palm soon. Re-pot it? Yep, that one is too small, the plant's top-heavy, and if it's the one you were sold it in, I expect it's potbound. Look under the base to see if any roots are attempting to escape from the drainage holes. But don't try to put it in a proportionate pot straight away. Repot using a one size larger pot and gradually build up to something more in keeping with the size of the plant

Thanks. It crossed my mind but I read that kentia palms don't like having their roots disturbed.

Have a look and see if any roots are escaping through the drainage holes, that's a giveaway. I thought it was a parlour palm, a different species that looks very similar and has a much more robust root system.

I'll see if I can lift it out of the pot more or less in one piece tomorrow, get it repotted in one of those terracotta jobs. Thanks Ray.

Make sure that the soil is moist - ie neither dry nor sopping – when you pull it out, so that the rootball with soil stays in one piece., and try to remember not to put it in a much bigger pot. If it is potbound, tease out a few of the roots with a pencil before filling in round the sides with compost (John Innes number two for preference, but anything will do). I'm sure you can find an on-line tutorial on repotting house plants on youtube.
Good luck with it.

Decided against it for now. The pot is bigger than it looks in the photo (distorted dimensions and all that) and anyway I repotted it a couple of months ago. The roots aren't poking out of the holes either. I'll wait another couple of months.
Meanwhile I might have to repot some of the other plants - not sure how big they get.

Fair enough, if you have just repotted you might want to wait more than a couple of months. As a general rule of thumb, the roots poking out of the holes is the thing to look out for when deciding to pot on.
