He came over much better in print But yeah, sometimes he was. I don't like people who don't listen, and he wasn't really engaged with the interviewers questions until the end - he was just ready to let loose with all his chin-rubbing and scowling rubbish. The funny thing is, we heard the two best qualified there. What the fuck would Tony Blackburn have to say about Joy Division? ('oh you may be surprised! - no I don't THINK so)

I have that book, and to be honest, if the band's image in 1984 was what was portrayed by that kind of writing then I'm not surprised that people took it to be contrived and ostentatious. I first came to the band twenty years later when their human lives were more at the forefront. I think Debbie's book changed the perception of them.

I first came to the band twenty years later when their human lives were more at the forefront. I think Debbie's book changed the perception of them. They were still very mysterious back then. I remember when I first saw the Love Will Tear Us Apart video and being surprised and disappointed one of them had a beard! Anyway, it's a shame that we didn't hear Tony Blackburn's take on Joy Division. I'm sure it would have been...er illuminating.
