Remarkably, I read an obit this morning, and, old man memory lapse possibilities notwithstanding, I'm pretty sure I'd never heard (of) them, nor remember ever reading anything about them, which is fairly remarkable considering how immersed I was in, ahem, 'alternative' music back when they were flourishing, and how voravious my reading of the weekly and monthly music press was back them. Maybe I had my prog blinkers on.

They were pretty big in London for a time in the mid to late 80s. I remember going out with someone who was really into them. They weren't my thing at all..quirky art rock with prog leanings.

Kinda like XTC with marching band rhythms with an ability to laugh at themselves, a cult act to be sure, a very very British thing, but rock culture used to have lots of little niches before everybody thought they were creating whole new genres.

They were really hated by the music press, but had a serious cult following. So they probably did something right, but they were certainly a bit proggy and xtcish for my tastes.
