I'm not as prepared as I'd like with this, but I was thinking about band evolutions. I'm thinking of folks like Manfred Mann morphing into Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Fleetwood Mac with their three evolutions, Thin Lizzy, who started out early Cream like and tranformed into hard rock pop band, for all intents. I know some of this has to do with band dynamics, such as guys like Howard Devoto/Buzzcocks or Barry Allen/XTC leaving a band leaders asserting themselves, but are there any you think got better?

I'd rate Beatles Rubber Soul - Sgt. Peppers era over the earlier period, but not sure many people would agree with this.
Definitely Kinks from Face to Face on much better than before.
Ditto Stones Mick Taylor era.
