Getting a call from your agent "Hey, new gig for ya, justin bieber".
Some session musicans must go from working some amazing artists to some shite because the bills need to get paid.
Could you do it?

I've often wondered the same about recording engineers. That'd be even worse, I reckon.

I always thought sound engineers are more likely to be specific to a genre or two of music. I know there's probably examples of people crossing many genres, but in general they'd stick to their lane. Like a sound engineer for Metallica and slayer would be unlikely to get a job with taylor swift.

I think it still is. Obviously if an engineer becomes successful enough they might be able to afford to be choosy, or they might be more likely to be chosen for a particular kind of thing.
