In the top seven music threads, two on the Bea*les, one on Zappa, two brain farts from Marcus and Now Playing. Bubbling under, Queen, Phil Collins, and Chad and fucking Jeremy, the duo for people who thought Peter and Gordon were too edgy.
I know I don't start many music threads, sorry, and when I do they tend to be about leather jackets, Spector, VU-style feedback, girl groups and other childish pursuits, rather than proper grown-up music, but I do try to respond to others. But there are fucking limits you know. Rant over. Nothing to see here. Move right along

Maybe they were, Charlie. I know you're not the only one who thinks so All I could see, as a teenage university student, was a pair of wet poshos in ludicrous clothes being twee, and I was so outraged by them that I refused to have anything to do with them. And those names! fucking hell! You might as well have a sign round your neck sayin Posh fop needs a kicking. Same principle with the Pretty Things, really, took against them from the very beginning because of the way they struck my [post-]adolescent mind. As with the Thingies, I'm not bothered when people suggest (NOT THAT YOU ARE DOING THAT) (sorry for shouting, new small keyboard) I've missed out because I managed to fill half a century with all the music I needed. As I may have said before, preudice [and snap judgments/instincts] save a lot of time, and I've filled mine, more or less.

Anyway I was hoping you had started a thread on the Steve Miller Band album.

When was the last time either of you started threads? Last night
Before that, in Music at least, July 22. As a matter of interest, when was the last time you replied to one of my music threads (before last night)?

If you're implying that I don't reply to your music threads often, then that's because those long-form threads you start don't really invite much in the way of response - although I do enjoy reading them.

I wasn't implying that, John, more that our tastes are so different (although of course they're wide enough that they do overlap in places), and I am so far away from my former passionate involvement in music, that I'm at a loss to start threads with any hope of engaging people, while I can usually summon up a response to anything anyone else posts, unless it's a subject like the Bea*les, the horridness of prog, or my notion of what a real soul single is, where even I am tired of my opinions, I've written about them so much. There are areas, such as sick records/death discs, girl groups, and other aspects of 50s/60s Americana that I could ifnd plenty to say about, but none of them oare off the wrist things I can just dash off three words and a youtube a la skope. And there's always the simple sad fact that so far this year, apart from doing some listening to Joni Mitchell for a hagiography that I'm probaby never going to write, play-grading some discs from someone else's collection, and clinking on links here, I've listened to precisely two favourite albums and no singles this year. I did think at the time that I could do an unsynced listen to one of my favourites, just playing it through and writing free form throughout, because my main problem with synced listens is that I can't cope with writing, reading, responding and listening all at the same time. But then I think, who is going to be bothered to listen to all of Pleasures of the Harbour or Spirit's Future Games, just to indulge my long-form blethering. I could revive the lost gems singles format, but there's very few I can think of that would be generally new to the congregation here, and several of them - like tracks from my favourite albums that I've tried - have been slaughtered in the cups.
