Some stuff learned:
Dogs that chase their tail have most probably been removed from their mother too early.
It is recommended for aggressive dogs to lessen the protein and increase fiber in their diets.
The urine remover enzyme is the same one that was used to give us stone washed jeans developed by a father son team.
The Amino acid (L-)Carnitine crucial to human's and dog's brain, heart, muscle and bone development is required by law in cat food, due to catastrophic amount of deaths, but not in dog food in the US.
Dogs simultaneously breath in and breath out whilst sniffing, adding to the efficiency and complexity of their olfactory processing.
Hounds have the most precise sniffing capabilities, and Bassett hounds because of closeness to the ground have added sniffing efficiency.
Dogs marking fire hydrants, posts, etc., is more about saying who, what, when, where, etc., notices on a bulletin board, rather than territorial markings.
Ideally whenever dogs meet they should do so on neutral ground, so if you are adding a new dog to your home that already has a dog, or if someone is visiting with a dog, etc., the dogs should first meet on a neutral plot of ground to reduce territorial aggressiveness and allow for bonding.
Stalin was so against any studies of evolution he purged any scientists suspected of studying it or holding any beliefs. As a quiet FU to him for killing his scientist brother a secret study was done in Siberia in the late 40s through the 70s by another scientist to show evolutionary and adaptive traits of foxes similar to wolves and dogs. While it did not show any links between foxes, wolves, and dogs, it did domesticate multiple fox generations in this part of Siberia. They seek human companionship and to be picked up and held.

Lately there has been a spate of lost cats in the neighborhood, and as I have observed in the past, usually found by dog owners. Do cat owners ever return the favor?

Look at this beautiful beautiful creature! quite moving Most of the rescue dogs presently in the US are from the US' various floods, fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc., in the South and West. I am not sure if rescues can cross the border normally or in the present Trumpian conditions.

It is hard not to notice the "catification" of dogs lately, ever smaller, non-shedding, hybrid breeds, and the upswing in people seeking out the 20lb Amish tom cats, or going illegal/gray for servals. Something is afoot. Ironically, the smaller dogs are prey for raptors, coyotes (East Coast coyotes are larger than West Coast, being wolf derived) and foxes, whilst the bigger cats are not. Whereas normally dogs are not prey, other than mountain lions, wolves and bears.

We haven't even gotten into all the pitbull knuckleheads who like the idea of having a living "loaded gun" and actually could care less for the actual animal/entity. They can't control the dog, and they don't treat it well, all full of alpha dog training BS. Very sad. 40% of the 1 million dogs euthanized in the US yearly are pits.

A nice pesticide free insecticide to kill fleas for cats, dogs is Diatomaceous Earth: It is made of the naturally occurring fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of algae that forms in freshwater. It is a fine dust that you lightly spray in an area, even on the pet. It works as a desiccant, drys out the insect eggs and bodies. Was originally used in the White House in the late 1800s to control an insect problem. You also eat it normally in processed food as it is used as an anti-caking agent in flours, powders, etc., pfharris.com/collections/food-grade-diatomaceous-earth

Interesting new book looks at undoing man's fingerprints all over the evolution of dogs.
A Dog's World: Imagining the Lives of Dogs in a World without Humans
“A Dog’s World” serenades us with plausible tunes. Natural selection favors reproductive success, nothing else. Without human intervention, dogs with physical anomalies such as drastically foreshortened snouts and oversized heads (bulldogs and pugs) would quickly disappear, unless they figured out how to do Cesarean sections. No more German Shepherds with hip dysplasia, no more tiny Shih Tzus.
In this “regression toward the mean” would breeds of any recognizable sort persist? Wolf-like types, such as malamutes, huskies and akitas might do well. The behavioral and anatomical traits of individuals would, however, be more important than which breed they represent. Would they form packs? Probably. Even now, abandoned dogs often form feral groups. Much of the human influence on companion animals has effectively been to deprive them of natural inclinations, notably opportunities for breeding and socializing: Many people don’t allow their pets to lie on the sofa, never mind gnaw on deer skulls or roll in yummy carrion. Post-human dogs would probably scavenge as well as hunt, and go from their current regime of reproductive cycling twice per year to once, like their free-living relatives.

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6863800/Interesting literature review on dog neutering and impact on growth, injuries, cancer, etc., Neutered females of sporting (Hounds, gun dogs, beagles, etc.,) and working breeds (Newfs, huskies, mountain dogs, etc.,) fare the worst with injuries, cancer, etc., once neutered. My vet has been pushing for neutering, but my research has shown for large/giant breeds (unlike small and medium dogs) despite fast growth, maturity can take up to three years. The daily presence of hormones is necessary, neutering interrupts maturing, which can lead to unfinished bone and muscle growth, thus increased injuries. We have been through one heat thus far and as she is a long haired dog it went fine, just low key. ACL surgery averages between $3500-$5000, which can happen multiple times.
