know them all well - have all three on 7" - but I think Poison Ivy was one of the first I got my hands on and it wins here. The utterly wretched version of Searching by the Hollies took the gloss off that song rather. Three Cool Cats was a b-side I think - but mustn't ramble. The group were basically a knockabout version of the Inkspots or Ravens, making use of bass and high tenor lead voices, but with more of a penchant for R&B and an ever-changing line-up of fine singers and performers that I can't get into – Bill Millar wrote an entire book about it. What made them really great, though, was the combination of Leiber and Stoller's songs and production and mordant Jewish wit - so much of the music I loved had creative input from New York (and environs) Jews - and the sax of King Curtis, who may well be ultimately responsible for my love of the instrument. It all came together best in Little Egypt, but everyone knows that, or if they don't they should look it up, but this one is a rare gem that doesn't always make it on to the comps: pre-Dylan protest song

All 3 are great to good - i'd go 'Poison Ivy', '3 Cool Cats' and then 'Searchin' which is a fair way behind those 2 for me.
I wouldn't fight Ray's call that 'Little Egypt' is arguably the greatest moment, but 'Poison Ivy' is the one i love most; magnificent on every level.

One (if not several) of the greatest groups ever.
Another vote for "Poison Ivy", but I think it's b-side might be my personal favorite: "I'm A Hog For You".

A vote for the swinging, syncopating cool cats.

I voted "Poison Ivy". That chorus hits the spot.
If I remember correctly, the Beatles Anthology I contains horrid covers of two of these. It's no wonder they couldn't land a record contract with those interpretations!

Three Cool Cats, yes?
It just grooves more. That's an important thing.
By the way, I found a Crickets LP at the flea market last weekend - it's got some nifty stuff on it, including a pretty swinging cover of Searchin'.
