In this case it ages very well (although you really have to have lived through a 1950s' Sunday to get the full flavour of that episode). Dad loved it, and we always listened to the broadcasts together. Great writing, of course, and a cast to die for - not just the Lad Himself, but Sid, Bill, Hattie as Miss Pugh and all the characters played by Kenneth (and Deryck Guyler?). It was a real shame that they didn't all feature in the TV show.

Adorable woman. I loved her. And Eric, just incredibly likeable, especially in that show. Good to see Richard Wattis there!
Hat was absolutely the star in the Carry Ons, especially Abroad. A bit of a goer by all accounts. What's the story with her and Le Mesurier? I forget.

Sykes was terrible though, real Terry and June level comedy. Love Hancock though..will never, ever tire of The Rebel. just looking at the paintings makes me laugh.

Sykes was terrible though, real Terry and June level comedy. No, G, you're wrong. Seriously. Have you watched them lately? Very superficially there are similarities but for one thing you haven't got the unlikeable ass Scott bouncing about with his petty frustrations. The cast of Sykes were lovable and not ciphers, and the scripts didn't follow any kind of formula.

But I just remember them being a bit bland and inane.
