Not knowing his body of work anywhere near as well as davey (nor intending/wishing to speak for him), the track that always gives me the big "what ifs" with Holly (as in, absolutely agreeing/believing that he'd have minted PLENTY of music's subsequent progress had he lived - creating impressionism with non standard instrumental combinations, etc.) is "Everyday".

Everything that loveless says above, but for "Listen to Me".
Not sure how far you'd go as to say it influenced psych, but that guitar is a mesmerising thing.
Btw, a bit of middle-aged madness, perhaps, but I was listening to the latest Einsturzende Neubauten on the way into work, and I swear there's a Buddy Holly influence on the way they handle percussion.

Be plussed…nonplussed…whatever.
If you’re looking for something that superficially reminds you of psych, you won’t find all that much. But that’s not the argument.
The point is that Holly was leagues ahead of his peers as a record maker. He overdubbed vocals (something that hadn’t been done on a rock and roll record), recorded with strings, experimented with drum sounds. Generally…he used the studio as an instrument. Isn’t that ultimately what psych was?
Conversely…here’s Buddy with nothing but a guitar and a tape machine sounding more than a little psychedelic…

Don't be so touchy Davey, I wasn't expecting mellotrons, sitars and lyrics about talking flowers. My query was in the spirit of curiosity, nothing else. The tracks posted seem of their time and with little in the way of sonic experimentation I can hear, but whatever..

I think that’s how it sounds now. We’ve assimilated all of these innovations. Imagine how it sounded to someone in the moment hearing Buddy’s voice singing two parts at the same time.
