"liked" for the reminder. I've been putting a lot of things off. It's an appalling crime. We, as the public, deserve to know who they are. Moral censure is a crucial part of how a society works. I feel like I could have lived a very happy life without ever knowing who the fuck Charles Manson was. sure, the crime was appalling and needed to be dealt with but what moral censure was provided by him becoming one of the most famous people in the world overnight?
He got a lot of marriage proposals and fan mail from lunatics. If there's another reality-frame where the "Tate-LaBianca" murders were sorted out without making any of the perpetrators famous, I'll bet it's a little more relaxed.
Realistically I can't see any way that could have happened though, given the murders took place in Hollywood ( there were other murders too, but no one's interested in Gary Hinman or Shorty Shea) and some of the victims were famous.

I think the bottom line is that it sold papers then & it mines data now.

we just had an Earthquake. I hate earthquakes. I wasn't in L.A. for the big '71 quake but I saw THIS every time we drove to L.A. for what seemed like a very long time. to make matters worse. there was TV coverage of 'the big one'. the way I remember it, there was a date and everything. I went to bed thinking "the big one" would come over night and I'd wake up dead in the morning. TV playing this stupid fucking song didn't help. anyway, even if my memories are diseased, everything seems okay today. If I wasn't several floors up, I might not even have felt it.
shhh! doncha tell anybody the whole place shakin' away!

If I wasn't several floors up, I might not even have felt it. That may have worked in your favor. The biggest earthquake I was in was when we were in Turkey, in 1974. We lived on the 8th floor of an apartment building, or 7th depending on how you count 'em - we got shook up a bit, and a plastic globe stand got broken, but that was it. Our friends on the 3rd (or 2nd) floor had WAY more damage.

Berlinale opening gala right now.
Flying out next Tuesday, hoping to see After Hours and the 4K remaster of the Japanese Godzilla, as well as some competition entries (new films from Kristen Stewart and Adam Sandler)

Three weeks ago we adopted a new dog, Frida, from a rescue agency. She was in a shelter in Mexico before the rescue agency chose her to come to Canada to be adopted (most of their rescues come from Mexico, S. Korea, or the American south). We knew we wanted to have more than one dog, and since Frida is quite timid we thought she could use a friend, so yesterday we went to pick up Norma, also from Mexico, and brought her home. They get along great and are already bringing us a ton of joy which has been absent since Jenny died in December. Frida (l) and Norma (r):

I know I don't post much since my ex died a couple years ago, but an update whether you want it or not. My oldest, my daughter who's 27, graduated in January with a political science degree and is taking a paralegal class to see if she wants to go to law school. She's already got offers from one professor to work in a local union office.
My son, who's 21 now, and has been drifting for the last few years, has realized he's been drifting and is coming back to my place in Oregon after a year in Ohio living with a friend. They tried to get a hot shot trucking business up and running, but had no concept at the details of running the business. I used the analogy of running the circus - you're only two hours in the spotlight and the rest of the work is feeding animals, dumping elephant shit, making popcorn, printing tickets, etc. The fun stuff doesn't last long - it's all the prep leading up to it that has to be done. That finally sunk in.
He's driving out. He's already got a job at the local hardware store (it's a big hardware store) and has meeting with a counselor about getting his two year degree in small business management. He wants to open an insurance office - my son likes money and said, "Why not open a usurious business where people are mandated to buy your product by the government?"
After two years in Alaska, six months fucking around here after his mom died and a year of odd jobs in Ohio with do-nothing, go-nowhere friends, he thinks he can be more productive.
I'm just doing the regular stuff, doing marketing communications for computer memory company and hiking around up here in Oregon.

Congrats to your daughter for her hard work. it's nice to know it's paying off. And congrats to your son for attempting to get his shit together. I hope he's successful and happy.

I thought initially, it was a colourisation of a Victorian street scene. Taken because of it's notoriety as a place where several prostitute's were murdered.
You have to love the double yellow lines, who the fuck would risk parking there ? Anyone know where this actually is. I doubt Moldova has English street names.
