I'll be the turd in the punch bowl. There are three albums from my youth that have fallen far in my estimation -- Layla, Quadrophenia and Rumours. I can't stomach Rumours any more. It's more narcissistic than Trump, it's so self absorbed it makes my skin crawl.
I like Remain In Light, Pretzel Logic and Around the World in a Day. The rest fall within the range of meh to vomit inducing.

I know all of the stories around the making of Rumors. But what exactly is “narcissistic” about it from a listening POV?

if we don't love them now, we will never love them again.

But you are at least 10-15 years younger than G Chortle chortle. How old is he? Is he, like, Rayge old? I've no idea what gav was on about. I think we're quite close in age.

Yeah, but your response time isn't.

"I've no idea what gave was on about" is timeless, and always correct.

Yeah, but your response time isn't. It's taken three years of daily work to compose that post Jimmy!

Fantastic is a pretty big word for most of these. You're not wrong.

I noticed! Where is dear old Gav, did he leave or was he pushed? Johnny banned him for being rude to me.

Rattle And Hum seems like the odd one out to me - I don't remember anybody, critic or fan, saying that was a FANTASTIC! (or even good) album at the time. In fact I always thought of it as being the one that broke the spell, so to speak - they were very much critics darlings up to that point, and I knew at least one major fan of the group who dropped them like a hot potato after that. I think of The Joshua Tree as the one the critics salivated over the most.

I could only really go for 'Rumours' and 'Bandwagonesque'.
I've never really warmed to Steely Dan or Talking Heads, despite kinda respecting both and liking the odd track.
Never liked 'Morning Glory', the beginning of the end.
Ashamed to admit I owned 'Rattle And Hum' at the time, but it's a load of old guff, isn't it?
The Bruce one is past my cut off point....
None of the others really register with me.

do you suppose critical consensus EVER had fuck-all to do with how an album connected with the public?

do you suppose critical consensus EVER had fuck-all to do with how an album connected with the public? The crossover points in this particular Venn diagram can be crazy hard to predict or understand, especially as rock has grown and fragmented over the decades, but you can almost always find a few artists in each era who seem able to have strong & successful commercial careers as well as winning over many/most critics.
