15- 20 years ago it was "bagel hand", same type of injuries
maybe use a spoon instead of a knife to remove the stone?

My wife needed microsurgery following this sort of injury.
Used a knife to do what a spoon does better.
Obviously, it was my fault!

Quite apart from using a spoon, or, my preference, fingers, to remove the stone, why are these people using a blade that can slice through flesh, muscle and tendons, to open up a fruit that is basically fat with a pickable, peelable skin?

I don't know why so many people get injured.
The simplest way is to Slice the avocado in two with the knife resting on the stone. Twist the parts sothat the stone remains in one part. Hit the stone with a knife and just turn it and it will come off.

They're easy to cut, I can't understand the problem. Some root vegetables like Swedes or Squash can be difficult to chop. I'd understand it more if it was about that.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to use sharp tools.
On a related note: where do you keep your Band-Aids (what do you call em in the UK? Sticking plasters?)? In your kitchen, where you're most likely to need them, or in your washroom's medicine cabinet, where you have to fumble about, slowly losing blood and making a mess of everything?

The solution is to wear them where you think you'll get an injury, and then you won't have to look for them when it happens.

Looks like Avocado is the new kale in terms of popular healthy food. Wonder what's next? will spinach make a comeback?
