Because of another thread I had to think about this. Years ago before Internet, I once had lunch in Taormina-Sicily with customers. It was a really nice place, a monastery that was still functional and part turned into a high end hotel-restaurant. A few years later my wife and I wanted to go to Sicily. I recalled the monastery and we decided to stay there. Without remembering the name of the place I had quickly located it and booked and everything. Today, I can't recall how I found it and thinking about how to find such a place today without the aid of internet, I'd be lost.
Is it just age, or a skill/inventiveness that we are losing quickly?

I think we're losing some skills but gaining others.
I still don't know how we coped before mobile phones when we were running late for dates.

Yes, my children sometimes ask, 'but how did you do that without a phone when you had a meeting down town with someone?'

I still, largely anyway, don't bother with a mobile. I've never got used to them and can't be bothered charging them all the time.

I think we're soon gonna have a generation of chilling cold people that were brought up on the internet and video games that are going to raise the level of violence. It will be mental abuse and actual physical violence and the thing is they won't understand what they did wrong. This will be down to lack of face to face communication and being immune to wrongs of violence due film/video games and social media. A clockwork orange lite.
A slight overreaction with a hint of truth i think.

The way I coped was not to make dates to meet anyone other than in their homes or offices, and then not to be late for them.

I think it's both. I remember knowing all my friends phone numbers. Now I only really know mine, my kids' and ex's.

It amazes me sometimes to think that my band booked a couple short tours through the States in the 90’s without the internet, just some phone numbers and addresses shared by other bands who had already played in the same places we wanted to.

There are many wonderful things on the internet, and it can really make some painstaking things of the past, happen painlessly now. But as I tell my kids NOT everything is on the internet, in fact, much isn't. Good research means going deep, hitting the books, periodicals, etc., of the time.

University libraries are all online now. You can access the most amazing amount of stuff and go as deep as you want.
