Have you watched german shows though? I've watched das boot and dark recently and even in tender moments in those show the language just sounds harsh. Of course. Toby's a Germanophile. But German is never a pleasant sound regardless of who's speaking. Absolute bollocks

Like a lot of accents, the stronger variety (Paisley, for example) isn't a lovely thing. But a mild NI accent is one of the most beautiful there is. Same goes for Scouse. A strong accent is all back-of-the-throat kkkkkkkkk and spitty and stretch-mouthed, but a gentle one is really lovely to listen to. It's funny you mention that. I've related this before, but when I visited England 10 years ago and stayed with Django, one of his first questions when we were hanging out was if I thought he'd lost his Liverpool accent. My response was, "How the hell should I know?" but it concerned him even though he'd only lived 35 miles away in Chester for the last 15 or so years. His wife is Welsh and he was worried he was adopting her accent and a less pronounced Liverpool accent. I only realized how much when we hooked up with John/Kid P later that week.
