C86! well, there might have been three good songs on there, but luckily
B
is one of them. Lovely
A didn't move me much

I played B first and was prepared to pick it until the chorus. A big let down from a good melodic verse. I liked A a lot.

No contest here for me. "Pristine Christine" is a classic Sarah Records cut. Another longtime favorite of mine. Caribou didn't stand a chance.

One of the more well known of Dan Snaith's tracks vs. the first single released on Sarah Records..Tough one..Had the Caribou been a little more adventurous (Something off Milk of Human Kindness or one of the Manitoba albums, perhaps) and not been featured on TV commercials and video games, it may have taken it for me..Going with the indie charm of the Urchins..Vote B

B isn't particularly exciting or anything - pretty standard indie, really - but A is just dull, repetitive, and way too long.

I have an album by A somewhere. This feels more like something I'd have on in the background, the definition of an album track in many ways, but it had enough of a groove to be not unpleasurable.
B gave good jangle, but sadly was sunk by the usual deficiencies of British indie of this period - characterless vocals ( unless you like the character of a wet lettuce) and cardboard box drumming.

Neither track is helped by it's video IMO. I'll take A by virtue of my "musical snow globe" logic I presented in Round 6 Match 3 but I do agree that it goes on a bit. the Sea Urchins track ain't bad and that's a swell name for a band.

I like B alright, but it's not a particularly great jangle pop tune (I think the vocals let it down a bit). A is a really interesting track, and I'm happy to give it my vote.

B was a real blast from the past! a nice way to finish the round.

Listening to A got me thinking about something else and not concentrating in the song. Yeah there were things going on, none particularly unpleasant, but nothing ultimately grabbing my attention.
Unlike B that got me right from the start. Not familiar with it, but it's got some flavour of instant semi-classic. Good pick.

2 decent tracks that are ok without me loving them. For the bassline in A that reminds me of something else...

A's vocals have a strong Arthur Russell vibe to them, that not-really interacting with the tune aloofness. An interesting choice of track this one. It's massively repetitive, just seems to swap a layer of instrumentation for a different element occasionally, is that glockenspiel or are they hammering metal in a Die Krupps way? Anyway, good choice, I think the Arthur Russell influence is more than just to the vocals, it's got that floaty, fuzzy feeling to it throughout.
This wasn't on C86, according to wikipedia, but it is a nicely charming lightweight pop song. I quite like this, it's a good tie all round really. There's not as much going on with this track, this feels like a band with no ambition at all, playing for the fun of it, and it gives it a likeable amateurish sheen. Lovely little jangle-piece. Proper home-spun shambling tune.
Ooh, I don't want to punish anyone this round, but I'll give the nod to A

I love that synth bass in A, and the various layers really let it take off in places.
Not much to say about B except that it sounds like they really liked The Housemartins. Blah.

I dig Caribou. He’s a stealth artist who creeps up on you. I liked the album when it came out.
B is the kind of thing that impresses yer Cockhead types.
Half baked indie
