Well that's a bit better. A's a nice semi-obscure Motown track (not sure if Tommy Chong is on this one or not; he was in this band pre-Cheech and Chong). Not earth-shattering, maybe, but at least it peers past the main room a little bit.
B is another 'primed to annoy' track from the artzone. I remember the Fibonaccis from the local LA scene in the 80s - inevitably they'd end up playing with some band or other I actively wanted to see. I'd head for the bar (or maybe the toilet) when they were on. We used to call them the Feeble Nazis. Oh, how clever we were!

B sucks Leroy's cock. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. Feeble Nazis were my favorite local band for a few years. I saw them go on after The Bobs at McCabes Guitar shop and they burned that place down without need of fire.

Fibonaccis - too close to the wrong side of the 'annoying/fun' line, really. Not something I can get a whole lot of pleasure from. Maybe they did better elsewhere - BUT I FUCKIN DOUBT IT
there's been a lot of
A
this cup - joyous, unfamiliar 60s/70s soul, but it's starting to get a bit predictable. HOWEVER this is probably one of the better examples, and I really liked the sweet vocal and the rhymes in the lyric ('offend her/send her to me')

A is OK but pretty unremarkable. i think the preludin motown/soul haters will have a field day with it. B is just annoying.

The rhymes in A drive me a bit nuts, but not as nuts as the entirety of B does.

Yeah, burned out on this kinda thing, you just know every move it's going to make by 15 seconds in. Bleh.
No, sorry. This tie can fuck off.

I don't think A's any kind of deep nuggett. Good production, but the song's not up to much. B is too gimmicky for me.

Oh i love A. I met Bobby Taylor several times in Hong Kong before he died a few years back, but that's a story for another time. Excellent pick, A. B... just doesn't do it for me.

A would seem to have everything to please me, the genre, the arrangement, the vocals, the production,... Pity the song is a piece of crap.
And if somebody had described me B I would have avoided it, but I try to listen to all the picks, and, surprise surprise, I enjoyed it. It's fun and I didn't find it annoying at all. It gets my vote easily

Nice to be able to make out the words, although some of those rhymes are a bit near the knuckle. Sweet voice, but I can't help but feel it would have been better with the Motown house band. Were they the only Canadians ever to record for Motown?
Didn't mind the vocals here - after all, I was quite enamoured with Frank Chickens for a while. I wouldn't have taken this from a guy vocalist, probably. Backing is heavy on the quirk, and I can see why hatz disliked it/them, but little old unmusical me is happy to vote for it

Were they the only Canadians ever to record for Motown? No -there was The Mynah Birds. They recorded quite a number of tracks for Motown and signed a big album deal. However just before their single was about to be released, Rick "Super Freak" James was arrested for deserting the navy and Motown got cold feet. All the recordings were shelved, although they were released decades later.
