It's actually pretty similar to the Crabby Appleton track that got a real kicking in one of the earlier rounds, yet people seem to really like this. Go figure. Hear, hear!
B is another sample of the sublime UK scene of the period, but it didn't stand above the admitedly high average.
A made me want to undig an album that I love, but have not heard in ages. A clear winner here.

Well, this is pretty much late 60s pop-rock by the numbers, entirely unmemorable, except for some pretty horrible vocals. Falls somewhere between The Monkees and The Who, and not in a good way. Bland, beige goop.
This is exactly the same isn't it? Last Train to Clarksville. Christ, I'm not voting for either of these, this is the evil that needs stamping out of preludin.

I seem to remember, decades ago, reading about a record called Spazz, by the Nazz, being banned by the BBC. It wasn't this lot, was it? Or maybe I dreamed it. I never heard anything Rundgren-related that led me to seek out more, and this is similar. Frenetic screeching basically, and while there's probably plenty of records I like that that description could be applied to, this isn't one of them. I gave it a second listen out of fairness, but there heard nothing to change my mind.
Equaly frenetic, but less screeching. Never heard of them, so I looked them up. Apparently the lead guitarist was Bob Weston, who went on to join Fleetwood Mac. Wouldn't call it Freakbeat myself, but the Yardbirds' DNA does run right through it. The edited version has enough to win agains a rather poor effort, while the full-length version that skope posted would beat virtually all of the tracks I've heard in this cup. Tremendous.

Probably this, Ray Oh definitely, John - apart from the rhyme, I can't imagine why I thought it was by the Nazz, but it was a long time ago

This was a photo finish after the first listen. A comes out of the traps well and manages to sustain the pace and excitement all the way round. B has a stronger rhythm section, and although it does sound like Last Train to Clarkesville in places as G says, it really tears up the home straight and sure enough it’s

While the tune of A is meandering aimlessly, B gets straight to the point - another fabulous find

The Kinetic are sixth-form Freakbeat, nice lads and all but...
A Todd given.

A long love of A wins it easily for me.
B's over-earnestness wrecks it for me. That intro goes on for too long, the overly philosophical lyrics are a turn off, and the guitar solo just sounds stupid. They were smart to fade it when they did.
