In the 1967 one you see how older people, particularly men, made much more of an effort in general to dress, even if it was just a jacket and a tie. Their clothes would at least fit. When I see men in their fifties and sixties around where I live wearing jogging bottoms and badly fitting t-shirts over their lumpen stomachs, I do despair a little. It's funny. I wore slacks, sports jacket, and a tie up until around 1998. So that's from 1985 to '98. And then business casual became a lot more pervasive, the same time tech became the dominant Silicon Valley industry. Everyone started dressing like slobby engineers.

Will interest absolutely no-one but me, but it makes me think more of us should do this kind of thing. I would've loved to have seen my dad caught in the footage around the bus station or somewhere. Almost made me cry seeing the old market hall.

What's the history of Pottery Rd.? Anything being made there now?

I don't think there's any significance to the road name, as far as I'm aware, but it does also intersect with pottery terrace. It's right across from Wigan pier, so I guess there would have been industry nearby at some point, though the obvious industry was the massive cotton mill.

The reason I asked (other than having a genuine interest) is that the University I live close to has an excellent pottery department - 'sister city' to Echizen Town, Fukui, Japan. But the history goes back much further to the native Creek tribes.
Though your city is much larger than my town, it is striking how much your area and mine have in common regarding King Cotton, coal and even the railroad.

Kinda interesting, to me at least since we went to the San Francisco Zoo a lot when I was a kid. They had a great playground that would never be allowed today.
