I finally went with "The Door Into Summer", "Love Is Only Sleeping". "What Am I Doing Hangin' 'Round?", "Pleasant Valley Sunday", "Daily Nightly", annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd "Words" just narrowly beating out three other songs.

I am here for this album.
Probably their strongest overall ("Hard to Believe" REALLY weakens it).
I needed a higher number of choices/votes, but "Love Is..." (right?!?!), "PVS", "Words", "Don't...", "What Am I...", "Daily Nightly", The Door.." (I've picked 7, and...omitted a couple that I only love slightly less - "Salesman" and "She Hangs Out" may very well be slight, but...I played them for years in a Monkees cover band, and I'm hearing them that way in my mind forevermore).

("Hard to Believe" REALLY weakens it). It is unquestionably the "sore thumb" of the album (in part, no doubt, because it's the only track with no Monkee instrumental participation) - but as Davy schmaltz goes, it's not awful. Would have fit in better on the next album.

I voted for four: "Love Is Only Sleeping" (sort of their version of a Revolver track with tinny guitar riff and bars missing beats), "Words" (seems like such an odd song now, this was really hit material in the day?), the undeniable "Pleasant Valley Sunday" (great production and performance by all involved), and my personal favorite — though I'm not the biggest Nesmith fan — "Don't Call on Me". Couched as a cheesy, lounge tune, it's as good and true as "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying", which is indeed the highest praise in my book. "Don't call on me when you're feeling footloose ... and fancy free." Sure everybody has been burned, but these words convey it in the best way. Like, please don't call me, I really can't take it! Great stuff.
