Walking the Preludin tightrope is increasingly difficult. The competing gusts from the brigade taste and the refugeniks are liable to knock us all into the CHASM OF CALAMITY Sounds like heaven. I've just spent the last week in the VORTEX of VICIOUSNESS.

What does this actually mean? I'm not being snide, I'm genuinely baffled as to what you think is going on that's different from any other cup. Oh, and 'agenda' is plural, so you could lose the 's'
Well I might expand after the final finishes, if I can find a way of doing it without it seeming sour grapes. Just think there's been a lot more negativity and cynicism this year. But surely negativity and cynicism have been the hallmark of all the cups - that's my point. Fish is going to abominate early pop and anything blues or country based, I don't like fu*k, wah-wah guitars, English 'psychedelia', English prog, most 60s UK pop and most post-1950 jazz, hatz doesn't like synthy stuff or obvious picks, JC doesn't like anything 'difficult' except the odd Beefheart, gash excoriates everything he didn't pick, hardly anyone likes metal or noise or industrial or indeed anything DF picks, some can't stand punk, and apparently several people don't like stuff if the band's name offends them, and on and on it goes. As various let's all agree on something threads have shown, this board doesn't do consensus, or even 80% agreement.

Or perhaps just more lousy music? FFS! Please say it’s not going to end up in a tiebreaker.

There just seems more negativity in general this year and a kind of determination to hear the worst in every track. Plus the voting against posters, voting against broad types of music etc. and just a general negativity towards the whole thing as if it's some kind of ordeal that's been inflicted on people. I've noticed it far more this year. I agree there's no real consensus (the nearest thing is probably alt rock from the 90s onwards, plus yer Enos and Beefhearts) and I'm fine with people being true to their individual biases. It's more the kneejerk, 'I've already decided this is going to be useless' or deliberately being hard to please barriers that people are putting up that is becoming problematic.

...Plus the voting against posters... I'll be honest, I never know who posted what. I could take a guess and perhaps be right, but you always seem to know who's posted which tune at any given time. I don't know how or why, but that seems to take the fun out of it - especially if you announce who the picker is, which, I'll admit, does cause a knee-jerk reaction in me to vote against a tune even if I like it. These things should as anonymous as possible.

I really doubt that happens. I think it might have played a part in some old BCB cups, but I genuinely don't see any sign of it here.

Open up your mind.

Who said I was expecting the same year after year? I'm just making an observation. It's inevitable that we're digging deeper and that accounts for the increase in negative comments.

The voting has been particularly all over the place this year, lots of negative agendas at play. Almost impossible to navigate all that really. What does this actually mean? I'm not being snide, I'm genuinely baffled as to what you think is going on that's different from any other cup.

I agree with you that G is talking nonsense. But I don't think agenda is plural. It seems to me that it is a feminine term, and it's plural would be agendae in Latin. Nothing like criterium/criteria.

i'm doing better than i thought i would.
certainly better than in the last cup final. hardly surprising since i didn't win a single tie last time!
my main focus is getting revenge on G for my defeat in the group stage.
