The PCO song sounds like it was written for a movie about penguins going to a cafe before attending the orchestra.
I always like PWEI and this is no different. This is a little tamer than the stuff I have. They just didn't give a fuck in the way The Cramps or Rob Zombie didn't.

A PCO provide a soundtrack to an alternate reality I have occasionally glimpsed while under sedation. PWEI May make me want to frug with abandon but that’s not enough to win this round.

not too keen on either of these. PWEI remind me of dark days on the brit music scene. i think they fell under the 'grebo' umbrella and i associate them with the awful carter USM.
i'm glad the PCO existed even if they're not my bag. the pick is harmless enough and i like the silliness of it.

B sounds ironically tame given the frankness of the lyrics. A quite enjoyable band in patches. A is inoffensive background music to a ceilidh.

I've been a big fan of The Penguins since their introduction through the Stranglers US fan club. They are definitely capable of something less slight, with their attendant whimsy, this for them is an "in between " track.
PWEI greebo or not, have their random moments, and I guess is one of them.

Both are horrible I’m sure PCO have better stuff PWEI are insipid. 2nd rate The Cure. Could get much worse. Won’t abstain

PWEI are very much of its time - and I don't like that time much.
A is the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, and is of course absolutely lovely!

Both are ok; A is sweet and pleasant enough, but does kinda sound like background music, while B is a bit catchy but doesn't really stand out for me. Maybe B.

A sounds like the theme tune to a daytime TV quiz show from the 80s. Struggling to see any point to it at all. PWEI were always a bit more inventive than their 'Grebo' tag would suggest, but this is definitely not the pick to make that argument. Very ordinary. A very fortunate B

I ate breakfast and drank a cup of coffee, then did some gardening and then rode my bike into town, waving at people I passed, before stopping in at the butchershop and a bookstore then heading home for a bit of lunch - all while that Penguin Café Orchestra tune was playing. Whew.
Then I listened to B and had a wank.

A is delightful! It's called minimalism, people! And they have a ton of fun with it. It's goofy and slight, but since when are those bad things?
I like PWEI's bass tone, but they embody the name a bit too much. It can only lead to indigestion.

A is OK, but it's very much incidental music to a daytime TV item about a new sheep-based sport. Didn't PCO used to make proper music at some point? Seems a shame that it came to this.
And talking of goofy and slight, those are the strong points of Inside You, which is absolutely PWEI's best track, imo. Aiming to be a second-rate Cure, the entire point (note the intro's resemblance to the intro of Love Will Tear Us Apart) is making that kind of weedy-yet-catchy indie pop song, and giving it a puerile lyric. And it's still magnificent. The debut album is such a shambolic hotchpotch of styles, each track hits the target like a well-flung welly.
