B is what A wants to be when it grows up.

Hmmm. I'm not so sure. I think I'll need to actually try out some of that Purple Heart dude's dance movesbefore I commit myself one way or the other.
EDIT: after some consideration I am giving this to A.
that guitar solo is even better than the dancing. I love "kicks" but that's a stomper!!!

both of these are right up my street, but the raiders pick is as safe as houses. there are much better deeper cuts to choose than 'kicks'.
as snee says, the lead guitar on the hearts track is amazing and really sets it apart. the singer's dance moves would give JC a run for his money.

New to both of these. B has more of a song to it.

Well, I preferred A. The dancing was very cool!
Never work with children and animals. The chick on the horse. WTF.

Paul Revere and The Raiders were never as good after one of their key members, the horse, left to join The Byrds ( where they can be seen on the cover of Notorious Byrd Brothers).

I've always enjoyed Kicks, without it ever becoming a favourite ( the chorus, when it finally comes, is a bit underwhelming). You don't go to stuff like A for its sophisticated and original songwriting, the appeal is all about its feverish and frenetic sound. Those guitars sound like The Velvet Underground!

The keen-eyed and historically minded amongst you will have noted Lobby Loyde doing some of his best early guitar fireworks in A; The Purple Hearts (named after some naughty pills) were one of his first groups, some great cranked up garage R&B. B is fun and a good tune but doesn't do quite enough.

I knew that Purple Hearts singer looked familiar. Here he is doing his thing in the 80's:
Anyway, A.

B reminds me that some of this stuff was really successful, and has contributed mightily to my burnout on this type of stuff. Not fair to punish a great band doing a great song, but stuff like this long ago lost a fair amount of its mojo due to oversaturation.
Fortunately, A reminds me that the best of it still has the power to surprise. The need to 'rock' with youthful abandon must not have totally deserted me just yet. It's frenetic and a bit unhinged and really, nothing special when you break it down. So why the hell would I want to do that?

B is just wee bit too polite, A is wilder
