Of those bands that came out around that time - Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, Soup Dragons, Happy Mondays seemed to be the only ones who consistently wrote good songs while the others got lucky like a blind squirrel.
This squirrel was not so lucky. It's not bad, but it's just banal.

I find with madchester/britpop, etc., they seem brightly colored and exuberant, but there isn't much (soul) there after a song or two. Most don't warrant much past having one album, usually their debut is their best statement. However, I can see how they were enticing to come of age, and claiming them as yours, just not mine.

They were great.
They tick all the wrong boxes, of course - white, rock/pop, 'retro' (Hammond, bowl haircuts), looked like Didsbury pissheads - but more fun than Carole King, better tunes than Led Zep, and a clutch of early 90s singles that rivals any of their contemporaries.
This one's an absolute BANGER

True, they did steal a lot from them.

I viewed them as also runs at the time. Dragging Me Down is their best one by a mile.
